A practical object notebook

Measure the usable width and depth at floor level. Then open nearby doors and allow a walking route. A photograph is useful for construction, but it cannot tell you how large an object will feel in your own space.
The low oval planter is 20 × 10 × 8 in and weighs 6 lb empty. The square planter is 14 × 14 × 16 in and weighs 12 lb empty. The tall entry planter is 26 in high with a 14 in top diameter, with a recessed planting opening. Compare the actual opening and overall form before choosing what to plant.
The ribbed round has one 0.4 in drainage hole and a removable plug. The oval has two holes. The rail model has a removable drainage tray and hooks fitting a 2 in maximum rail. Never infer a safe load from the hook size: confirm the supporting rail can carry the total planted, watered weight.
A 6 × 6 in candle lantern has a different base from the 9 × 9 in pillar holder. Check the candle chamber as well as the outside. For covered temporary use without a flame, compare the 8 × 8 × 12 in LED frame and the 6 in diameter hanging battery lantern. Batteries are not included; both come back indoors after use.
